- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Stir in the lemon juice. This helps prevent browning and adds brightness.
- Pour the apple mixture into your prepared 9-inch pie plate.
- Dot the top of the apple mixture with the small pieces of butter.
- Carefully place the top crust over the filling, crimp the edges to seal, and cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a combination of apple varieties. Consider adding a tablespoon of apple cider for extra depth. You can also add a sprinkle of coarse sugar to the top crust before baking for extra crunch.
