Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 ounces Fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup Orange juice
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1/4 cup Orange zest (about 1 large orange)
  • 1/4 cup Bourbon or orange liqueur Optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves Optional

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Method

Instructions
  1. Combine cranberries, orange juice, sugar, pecans, orange zest, bourbon (if using), and cloves (if using) in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  3. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly. Stir occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely. This allows the flavors to meld.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices as needed.
  6. Serve warm or cold with your favorite dishes like roasted poultry, pork, or ice cream.
  7. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to partially puree the sauce after it has cooled slightly. You can also experiment with different types of nuts or add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth.
