Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. The centers will still appear slightly soft.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar and add sprinkles, if desired.

Notes

For extra festive flair, use Christmas-themed cookie cutters to shape the dough before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
