Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 Large Oranges
  • 4 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips Or dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or your preference!
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt Optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Sharp Knife
  • Wire rack
  • Microwave-safe bowl or double boiler

Method

Instructions
  1. Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Try to keep slices uniform.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Add orange slices to the simmering syrup, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Simmer gently for 1 hour, or until translucent and tender, turning occasionally.
  4. Remove orange slices with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool completely (4-6 hours or overnight).
  5. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, melt in a double boiler.
  6. Dip each dried orange slice halfway or completely into the melted chocolate. Place back on the wire rack to set. Sprinkle with sea salt (optional) before chocolate sets.
  7. Once the chocolate has hardened, store candied orange slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate. You can also experiment with different types of sprinkles or chopped nuts for decoration.
